What's the news?

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that his team is full of confidence and belief after a dramatic 3-2 win against Southampton.

In case you didn't know...

Manchester United extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they beat Southampton 3-2 at Old Trafford.

Yan Valery gave Southampton the lead in the 26th minute, which was cancelled by Andreas Pereira eight minutes after the half-time break. The Red Devils got in front through Romelu Lukaku in the 59th minute but the Saints fought back to make it 2-2 through James Ward-Prowse's spectacular free-kick in the 75th minute.

However, just when it was looking certain that United will lose valuable points from the game, Romelu Lukaku stood up to the occasion and found the back of the net in the 88th minute to secure all three points for his team,

Manchester United moved to the fourth position in the Premier League table with this victory and are now in the driving seat to qualify for the Champions League next season, with just nine games left to play.

The heart of the matter

Speaking to journalists after the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted that his team showed character against Southampton, and also revealed that the Red Devils' dressing room is bouncing at the moment.

He said (via manunited.com):

It was a great start, I have to say, and then the injury broke up the game a little bit. They contained us and made it an open game.
It was a fantastic strike from the kid [Valery] and then the second goal they scored was a fantastic strike.
What can you do about them? You can’t really do anything about it. So to score three goals ourselves is great. We showed great character. That dressing room is bouncing, full of belief and looking forward to Wednesday.“

What's next?

After a disappointing 2-0 defeat in the first leg of the Champions League round-of-16 tie against Paris St. Germain, Manchester United will be looking forward to turning the tie around when they face the Parisians for the second leg at the Le Parc des Princes on March 7.
