What's the news?

The former Manchester United defender, Wes Brown has urged the Red Devils to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.

In case you didn't know...

Manchester United are currently playing some excellent football under their caretaker manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and are yet to lose a game since he took charge at the club back in December.

However, defence remains to be an area of concern for them and the Red Devils conceded 35 goals in 25 league games thus far this season. They tried to sign a defender last summer but failed to reach an agreement with any of their top targets.

The heart of the matter

Wes Brown suggested his former club to make the Real Madrid defender, Raphael Varane their key target in summer.

He said:

‘The dream defender for United would be Rafael Varane. He would cost a lot and it would need to be the right fit for United.
‘It’s difficult to say as United have a lot of defenders to choose from, and Solskjaer will want players to justify their positions on the pitch. The man to partner Koulibaly or Varane at United is likely to be Swedish star Victor Lindelof.

He also sang praises of in-form defender Victor Lindelof,

‘Lindelof has started to understand what it takes in English football. It was similar to Vidic adapting to the English game.
‘It’s difficult and different adjusting to the league, and moving to a new country. It’s quicker and stronger in certain areas and sometimes it takes time to adjust.
‘I never thought he was bad, but he’s started to understand more and take everything in, you can now see the class coming out.

What's next?

The Red Devils currently fifth on the Premier League table and will next play Fulham at Craven Cottage on February 9.
