What is the story?

Manchester United midfield sensation, Scott McTominay has praised Jose Mourinho for his treatment towards him. He also expressed why he is grateful to the former Manchester United manager.

In case you didn't know...

Manchester United sacked Jose Mourinho from their managerial job back in December 2018. Scott McTominay was one of those players who impressed Jose Mourinho when he was the manager of The Red Devils.

McTominay was awarded Manager's Player of the Year by Jose Mourinho during his tenure at Old Trafford. The Scottish midfielder has been performing superbly under United's new manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The heart of the matter...

In an interview with English outlet The Times, Scott said,

“Jose was amazing for me."

Then he shared his first-day training experience under Jose Mourinho,

“Though when I first came in Jose gave me a serious, serious b******ing. I was arguing with one of the first team lads in training and he said ‘hey, kid, when you come into the first team, the other players — they have to like you.’
“'You’re not a superstar', he said and I drove back to digs thinking ‘have I just ruined it for myself? I couldn’t believe it."

McTominay further added,

"I thought 'I hope he knows I don’t think I’m a star, I’m the polar opposite.’ He probably just wanted to see what I was made of, what sort of lad he had on his hands."
“You’re liked by what you do on the pitch and how you are off the pitch and I feel Mourinho saw something in me at a time some people did and some people didn’t, and I’m grateful.”

The young United midfielder also claimed that they still have a nice relationship.

“He texts me and we have a good relationship."

In conclusion, Scott said,

"I was sad when he left but football moves on. He is an amazing manager but we have another amazing manager in Ole."

What is next?

Manchester United will travel to Everton on Sunday. They need the win in order to remain in the race for top four Premier League spots.
