Reports: Manchester United to make £40M move for Luke Shaw replacement

Luke Shaw might be on his way out

What's the story?

Manchester United may have a lot of left-backs, but they are looking at Ryan Sessegnon as a replacement for Luke Shaw, according to The Sun. The Red Devils want to make a £40 million swoop for him in the summer as Jose Mourinho believes that he will be a star in the future.

In case you didn’t know

Manchester United, the same report further adds, have sent scouts to watch the 17-year-old in Fulham’s last three games. The youngster has been in incredible form this season, scoring 14 goals to become a revelation in the Championship.

Heart of the matter

Jose Mourinho’s relation with Luke Shaw took a further hit when the duo found themselves as the subject of a training ground bust-up—the same report claims—and Shaw now wants to leave the Old Trafford outfit.

Danny Rose was one of the targets for Manchester United, but they have now turned their attention towards the Fulham starlet. According to an Old Trafford source of The Sun: “The club have been keeping tabs on him [Sessegnon] and the reports back are fantastic.”

Rumour rating: 6/10

The rumour makes a lot of sense and ticks a lot of boxes. Jose Mourinho’s frosty relationship with Luke Shaw is well portrayed and there is every chance for the left-back to leave the club in the summer to resurge his career elsewhere.

What, however, should be noted is that The Sun aren’t entirely known for revealing 100% accurate stories and this could just be one of the less accurate rumours.

Author’s take

Luke Shaw’s marriage to United is a failing one and the chances of him leaving Old Trafford are really high. As a result, the Red Devils will need a left-back and Sessegnon must be somewhere on the list of potential targets.
