Rumour: Manchester United set to trigger release clause for Liverpool target Yevhen Konoplyanka

Yevhen Konoplyanka

Manchester United are set to make a bid for Liverpool target Yevhen Konoplyanka and match the Ukrainian’s release clause, according totalkSPORT.

It has been well publicised that Liverpool have been interested in the left-winger for the last few months and Brendan Rodgers’ men came close to signing the Ukrainian in January before the deal fell through at the last minute after issues regarding negotiations.

The deal looked to have hit a few stumbling blocks, particularly in the money department with Dnipro asking for £15 million for Konoplyanka’s services at the time. However, the Ukrainian side confirmed recently they are willing to sell Konoplyanka.

It now seems as though rivals Manchester United could pip the club to the signing of Konoplyanka, by matching his reported £12 million release clause. The wingers relatively low wages makes him a feasible option for the Red Devils.

The Manchester United hierarchy are reportedly waiting for van Gaal to confirm that he wants the player so the club can pursue the Dnipro star.

Konoplyanka is a right-footed left-winger and would solve Liverpool’s left-wing issue. Coutinho has been deployed mostly on the left-hand side throughout the season and his tendency to drift inside has left Liverpool lacking width at times.

Konoplyanka was fouled 20 times in the Europa League this season.
