Manchester United must splash the cash in January

Manchester United need to reinforce their squad this transfer window. They simply cannot compete in the Premier League with this squad. New Year’s defeat to Spurs was United’s 4th home loss this season. They simply don’t have the quality in their squad to finish in the top 4. The fact that United relied on 18-year-old Adnan Januzaj as their most creative player while trying to force a comeback, shows just how badly they lack creativity.

United’s defense was even worse. Patrice Evra is in shambles, and looks like half the player he was in his prime. Spurs created several chances down the left side of United’s defense in the first half. Evra couldn’t handle the pace of Lennon and Walker and was at fault for the first goal, due to his terrible positioning.

There are rumours circulating that Everton want 25 million for Leighton Baines, and I think United should pay that amount. It’s a hefty fee, but it’s one that could help them finish in the Top 4 this season. In January, one does expect to overpay, but play time is over, this is serious.

If United don’t finish in the Top 4, they’d lose a lite of money due to lack of Champions League football. Moreover, the Wayne Rooney saga isn’t over yet, he will be agitating for a move. Robin van Persie doesn’t seem too happy with Moyes either. A place outside the Top 4, and United could possibly be without their star strikers next season. It only goes downhill should United fail to finish in the Top 4.

Moyes seems very reluctant to buy players in January, and rightly so. But now is not the time to hesitate. Manchester United are in a desperate need for reinforcements. Lack of creativity seems to be the general problem, and Patrice Evra is another concern. A central midfielder and a left back are a must buy for United.

United face Chelsea in 2 weeks’ time. And even though I’m a United fan myself, I think United will get humiliated by a rampant Chelsea side if they play with this lacklustre squad.
