Manchester United stars who should leave Old Trafford

Ashley Young's days as a Manchester United player are numbered

Manchester United have had a dip in form this season and with the winter transfer window approaching David Moyes will surely let some of the under performing players go and replace them fresh blood. Here is a list of Red Devils players who could be heading for the exit door.

Ashley Young

Ashley Young’s days as a Manchester United player are numbered

The former Aston Villa man has been a let down for United to say the least. He has failed to replicate his Villa Park form which impressed former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who shelled out around £20 million for the winger in 2011. The 28-year-old has gained more fame for his diving than his performance on the pitch. Young was once again booked for diving in the match against Crystal Palace and was heavily criticized by manager David Moyes. The player has not featured for United since his antics against Crystal Palace and will most likely be sold next year. Southampton have already expressed interest in the England international.

Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand

Ferdinand was the Red Devils most expensive English footballer in history when they signed him for £34 million and has been ever-present for United since then. The 34-year-old formed an extremely fruitful partnership with Nemanja Vidic and managed to keep six consecutive clean sheets in 2007. The former England international’s pace has greatly reduced over the decade and was nut-megged on numerous occasions during the 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion. Ferdinand currently has a contract which expires at the end of the season and will most likely hang up his boots. Phil Jones and Jonny Evans are more than capable of filling the void left by Ferdinand once he retires.

Anderson

Anderson is another name that could face the axe at Manchester United. The Brazilian was tipped as the ‘next Ronaldinho‘ due to his performance with Portuguese side FC Porto and United acquired his services for £20 million in 2007. The 25-year-old scored his first goal for United in 2009, two years after his signing, and has been very inconsistent since then. Anderson gave an impressive performance last season in the matches against Newcastle United and Chelsea but reverted back to his old ways since then. The midfielder has been sparingly used this season and Moyes may put him on the transfer market this season to give other players in his position like Nick Powell and Tom Cleverly more playing time.

Bebe

Bebe

Sir Alex Ferguson did not even see Bebe play when he acquired him in 2010, and signed him after his former assistant Carlos Queiroz sang his praises. The word ‘benchwarmer’ would be a compliment to the 23-year-old who hasn’t played a single game for United since he signed for them from Vitória de Guimarães. The Portugal international has had loan spells with Besiktas and Rio Ave and is now biding his time at Pacos de Ferreira, United fans can only hope that his transfer becomes permanent with the Portuguese club. Bebe’s chances of ever playing for United again are grim as they have a wealth of options up front. Plying his trade at another club would be a win-win for both sides.
