Manchester United are plotting a move for Feyenoord defender Bruno Martins Indi this summer according to the Daily Mail, as they look to bolster the defensive options in the wake of the departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

The veteran centre-back pairing have opted to leave the club at the end of their contracts in the summer, with Vidic joining Inter Milan on a free transfer and Rio Ferdinand still considering his options after deciding against seeking a new deal.

New manager Louis van Gaal is believed to want to bring a Dutch contingent with him to Old Trafford, with midfielder Kevin Strootman the subject of a bid by Manchester United and he has targeted a number of Dutch defenders to bolster a depleted back-line.

Stefan De Vrij is reportedly set for a move to Lazio to scupper any deal for him, but Van Gaal has instead targeted fellow countryman Martins Indi to join him at Old Trafford, having impressed him during his time in charge of the Dutch national team.

Team-mate Daryl Janmaat is also believed to be someone Van Gaal is monitoring, but with centre-backs a more pressing issue than right-backs at the current time, Martins Indi is a man that Van Gaal has instructed United chiefs to strike a deal for.
