The Red Devils are yet to make a statement signing in spite of being linked with a host of players in regards to transfer moves. However, from what it looks like, the Old Trafford faithful may have to wait to see their beloved club splashing out cash on a big transfer until the summer.

On that note, let's have a look at the top stories concerning Manchester United today.

#1 Duncan Castles makes Manchester United transfer claim

Ten days have already passed since the transfer window flung open, but United are yet to make a concrete move for any of the players they were being linked to in the previous months. The Red Devils' fascination for Kalidou Koulibaly is well-known and they also had made a bid to sign the defender, only to see Napoli reject their advances.

Now, amidst doubts being cast over the club's intentions regarding signing players in this window, Daily Record journalist Duncan Castles has given his views on the matter.

Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, he said,

“It would be ironic after Mourinho had gone to war with the club to try and force them to buy in the summer and they’ve refused to reinforce in that position [centre back]."
“What I’m hearing is that they are ready to do it for the right player and obviously the big change at Manchester United is they now have control of transfer policy back, so they don’t have to fight with the manager."
“So, in that sense Mourinho leaving has opened it up for them."
“They don’t have to worry about signing a player and Mourinho doing well of the back of it and then them being stuck with Mourinho into another season.”

United have already won their first five games in all competitions under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who now prepares for his first tough test as Manchester United visit Wembley to face Tottenham on Sunday.

#2 Ivan Perisic available at a reduced price

Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic has been linked with a move to Manchester United ever since the times of Jose Mourinho and now it seems that the Red Devils could finally land their man.

According to CaughtOffside via Daily Mirror, Perisic's asking price has been reduced from £50m to £30m and United could as well plot a move for the 29-year-old in the coming months, or if possible, even in January.

Inter are reportedly keen on offloading players to sign fresh legs, which has given United the opportunity to sign their long-term target.

However, it remains to be seen whether Ed Woodward and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer agree on making a move for the Croatian, knowing the plethora of talent they possess, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in their ranks.

#1 Red Devils urged to sign Kalidou Koulibaly

Former Manchester United star David May has urged his teammate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to splash the cash on Kalidou Koulibaly if he becomes available. The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford and May feels that the asking price should not be the stumbling block in any attempt made to sign him.

“If you look at United over the last God knows how many years they’ve always gone out and broke transfer records if need be."
“They did with Rio [Ferdinand], [Angel] Di Maria, [Paul] Pogba, [Romelu] Lukaku. They allegedly pay [Alexis] Sanchez half a million a week."
“If you want the best players then you have to pay top money for them. City do it. Liverpool did it with Van Dijk and just look at the transformation."
“They spent £70 million on a goalkeeper, which is a hell of a lot of money but what that gets you back is guaranteed Champions League football and the possibility of winning the Premier League."

David May also spoke about the financial muscle of other European heavyweights and how they would fork out the asking price to sign the defender.

“The amount of money United earn then to spend £100m on a defender….so what?"
Real Madrid will spend it. Barca will. Chelsea and City will. If it guarantees you a much better defence then go ahead and spend it."
“If Koulibaly becomes available – and there are rumours that he is interested with a fee of £90m – then I’m sure Ole would say he’d be a great signing for Man Utd.”
