According to The Mirror, Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their hot pursuit of Ajax skipper Matthijs de Ligt. The 19-year-old is one of the most wanted players in the world at the moment, with several clubs interested in acquiring his services.

LaLiga giants Barcelona have already agreed a deal to sign de Ligt, according to various reports in Spain. Liverpool and United were rumoured to be chasing the Netherlands international, but it seems the defender is more likely to end up at Nou Camp when the transfer window slams shut.

According to reports from The Mirror, Manchester United are said to be weighing a deal for PSG outcast Adrien Rabiot in the summer. Owing to contract disputes with the French champions, the 24-year-old hasn't featured for the side since December.

Barcelona were rumored to be targetting Rabiot this summer; however, £175,000-a-week wage demands and a signing-on fee of £10million compelled the Catalans to sign Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong for £75 million instead.

United view the Frenchman as the perfect replacement for Ander Herrera, who will leave the club for free this summer. However, Solskjaer and Woodward are said to be brooding on the prospect of making a move for the player, given his attitude problems in the past.

Manchester United are set to undergo a major overhaul this summer, with reinforcements needed in a number of positions. According to The Express Red Devils are said to be planning a £120m double move for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and Lille striker Nicolas Pepe in the upcoming transfer window.

United have been chasing Koulibaly for a pretty long time and eye him as the ideal man to shore up their leaky defence. The 27-year-old could cost no less than £75m - the exact fee Liverpool paid to prize Virgil van Dijk away from Southampton last year.

The Red Devils are also keen on acquiring the services of Lille's in-form striker Nicolas Pepe as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian has been off-colour for the entire season, and hence, Solskjaer plans to bolster his attack by signing the £45m-rated forward.

Following an impressive season where he scored 21 goals and assisted 12 more, Pepe is also a major target for PSG and Arsenal.
