Manchester United transfer news: Mourinho wants 3 players in exchange for De Gea, £45m deal in place to sign Fabinho and more - 8 February 2018

Manchester City v Manchester United - Premier League
De Gea may finally get his wish of playing for Real Madrid

The January transfer window may be over but Manchester United and Jose Mourinho are striving hard to line-up key players for another summer of massive transfer signings. Amid rumours of David De Gea's exit, we take a look at the top Manchester United rumours on February 8, 2018.

De Gea nearing a move to Real Madrid

According to the reports from the Spanish publication, Diario Gol, David De Gea has an agreement with Real Madrid which will see him join the La Liga giants in a reported £135 million deal.

Reports also suggest that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will not make the negotiations easy as he will demand at least 2 of Isco, Marco Asensio, and Raphael Varane to let De Gea join the Los Blancos.

According to Diario Gol, Mourinho prefers Varane over Isco and Asensio as he is determined to improve United's defence. Mourinho sees Varane-Bailly as United's leading central defensive pairing for the coming seasons and is willing to give up on De Gea.

De Gea has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for quite some time now and the Spaniard is personally keen to move back to his native country after playing for over 7 years for Manchester United.

Manchester United eye Fabinho as Carrick's replacement

Villarreal v Monaco: UEFA Champions League
Fabinho is determined to quit AS Monaco

Manchester United have contacted AS Monaco over the possibility of signing Fabinho in the summer and are prepared to offer as much as £45million for the Brazilian midfielder, reports Daily Express (via Sky Italia).

Manager Jose Mourinho is working hard to sort his midfield puzzle after Michael Carrick's reported retirement at the end of this season and the delay in Marouane Fellaini's contract extension.

Mourinho has earmarked Napoli's Jorginho and Monaco's Fabinho as his ideal midfielder options next season. While Jorghino's future is still in the balance, Fabinho's latest comments suggest that he is ready to quit Monaco and seek new challenges.

In a recent interview with Brazilian newspaper Lance, Fabinho said: “My time with Monaco was good but I feel my time here is coming to an end."

“I know that the club’s vision is to try to finish second and qualify for the Champions League without counting on big-name players but on young players. I believe I have gone through this process."

“I arrived as an unknown, I made my name at the club, won things — but maybe I need a new challenge.”

United were interested in the Brazilian midfielder last summer as well but Monaco refused to let him go after the club lost a string of players (Bakayoko, Mendy, B. Silva, Mbappe). However, with rumours of United's £45m bid and player's willingness to leave, we may see the transfer completed after all.
