Manchester United Transfer News: Red Devils identify Bundesliga striker as the replacement of Romelu Lukaku

Arsenal FC v Manchester United - Premier League
The Red Devils mean business in the transfer window this summer

What is the story?

According to reports from ESPN, Manchester United are keeping tabs on Eintracht Frankfurt striker Sebastien Haller as the potential replacement for Romelu Lukaku.

In case you didn’t know…

Haller has caught the eye of top clubs across Europe after enjoying a stellar campaign with Eintracht Frankfurt. The French striker racked up 15 goals and 9 assists in the league, helping the German side finish seventh in the table. Haller also bagged 5 goals and 3 assists in the Europa League as Frankfurt enjoyed a sensational run in the competition.

On the other hand, Romelu Lukaku struggled to find his momentum in the recently concluded season. The 26 year old ended up with 15 goals in all competitions, just 12 in the Premier League. The Belgian forward has scored 42 goals in his two seasons at Old Trafford. It is crystal clear that he is below the pecking order under the tutelage of Ole Gunner Solskjaer.

Meanwhile, Manchester United endured a terrible season considering their sky-high standards which saw them ending their Premier League campaign outside top four. As a result, the Red Devils will not be featuring in the Champions League next campaign.

The heart of the matter

It is an open secret that new Inter manager Antonio Conte is an admirer of Romelu Lukaku and the Belgian forward remains one of the names in his shortlist. It is a possibility that Lukaku might leave United in the upcoming summer window and Ole Gunner Solskjaer has already identified the replacement of the player.

According to the report, United are eyeing a move for Haller if Lukaku leaves the club. United scouts have been monitoring the 24-year-old sharpshooter for some time now and Solskjaer will be ready to make his move. Lukaku is not on the transfer list but the Red Devils' hierarchy will not be able to resist a huge bid for the Belgian.

What's next?

ESPN is a reliable media outlet but it remains to be seen whether Inter lands Lukaku or not. It will be difficult for United to get their hands on Haller as Frankfurt already sold their star forward Luka Jovic to Real Madrid.
