What is the story?

According to Portuguese outlet, A Bola, Manchester United are at the pole position to sign Sporting CP midfielder, Bruno Fernandes.

In case you didn't know...

Manchester United could face big trouble as their star midfield general, Ander Herrera is reportedly set to make a move to Paris Saint Germain. A few reports have claimed that Herrera has already agreed to sign a contract with the French side. As per rumours, Herrera agreed to sign a 3-year contract with PSG worth 200k-a-week.

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the Spaniard has played superb football for the Red Devils. Now, United are at the 6th position in the Premier League points table with 61 points from 32 matches. In this case, Man United risk missing next season's Champions League, which is also one of the reasons why Herrera would like to change his team for playing in one of the elite competitions out there.

Another United Midfielder, who is likely to switch his team is Paul Pogba. Pogba has been linked heavily with Real Madrid for a while now. If United fail to qualify for the next season's Champions League, it would be a pretty hard task for Solskjaer to keep Pogba in the house.

The heart of the matter...

Bruno Fernandes, who plays professional football for Portuguese side, Sporting CP, could be an ideal replacement for the Spaniard or the Frenchman. Fernandes can play in the central midfield role as well as the attacking midfield position.

This season, the 24-year-old midfield maestro had scored 15 goals from 27 league appearances. Not only for scoring goals, but he also likes to help his teammates in scoring goals as Bruno has recorded 11 assists so far.

In the absence of Ander Herrera or Paul Pogba, Bruno could play a vital role in United's midfield. He is fast, intelligent and most importantly a good free kick taker. He has scored many of his goals this season with his brilliant free-kick taking skills.
