The Red Devils will have a new manager next season after allowing David Moyes leave the club, 10 months into his six month contract. Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal will be in charge at Old Trafford after stepping down from his post with the national squad - post the completion of the 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign with his national team.

According to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, incoming United manager wants the Red Devils chief executive Ed Woodward to sign Xavi in the summer transfer window. The Spain international was handed the first team debut for his boyhood club Barcelona by Van Gaal, when the Dutchman was in charge of the managerial role at Camp Nou.

Just like United, Barcelona are also having a new manager as their former midfielder Luis Enrique will take over the reigns for the next season. Xavi has played alongside the Catalan club's new manager and is now believed that Enrique is not planning to involve him in his plans for the new campaign.

The Spanish midfielder's future at Barcelona is uncertain and their new manager has done no good to put those rumours to bed.

"He's a friend and former team-mate. I could say great things about him. The time will come to sit down and talk and assess what we all want. We'll wait before deciding things," Luis Enrique said.

Meanwhile, Goal.com reported Xavi had signed a pre-contract with the Qatari club Al-Arabi SC. However, the deal has not taken shape and lately it has collapsed, leaving Barcelona star's future in the air.

Van Gaal has made contact with Xavi's close friend to know his plans for the next season as the Dutchman is looking to bring the midfielder to Old Trafford in the coming transfer window.

Any move from United for the services of Xavi wil not be an easy task as the midfielder is eyeing to feature in the minor league. However, the influence of Van Gaal could temp the Spain midfielder to reunite with his former manager at United next season.
