Reports: Manchester United offered Real Madrid £100m twice for Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale has scored 28 goals in 58 league appearances for Real Madrid

Manchester United have reportedly made two attempts to sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid this summer, as reported by The Mirror. Louis van Gaal had made two £100 million bids for the Welshman under increasing speculation that he is unhappy at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Gareth Bale endured a somewhat disappointing season in 2014-15, coming nowhere close to recreating the impact he had at the club following his record £86-million transfer. He was on the receiving end of abuse from the Los Blancos supporters and was often blamed for not turning up in crucial matches as Real ended the season trophyless, failing to capitalise on their La Decima success last season.

Louis van Gaal has been on the lookout for a genuine game-changer and sees that in Bale. He is desperate to bring the former Tottenham player back to the Premier League by breaking the record for the highest transfer fee, and is ready to part with Real Madrid target David de Gea in order to get his man.

According to Marca, the blockbuster sponsorship deal Manchester United signed with Adidas will see the club earn an estimated £750 million over 10 years, which explains why United are financially strong and willing to spend big money on Gareth Bale. The German sportswear giant believes that Bale and United will be terrific for their company’s marketing strategy as the 26-year-old is already contracted to them.

Bryan Robson backs United to sign Gareth Bale

Manchester United Legend Bryan Robson spoke about Manchester United’s reported interest in Gareth Bale at the launch of ESPN’s Greatest Sporting Cities research, saying that it would be a good move for him after the departure of Angel di Maria.

“Bringing Bale in would be a really good signing if it was to happen” said Robson, according to Daily Mail.

He added: “The good thing with Bale, and this is what the manager likes, is he can play in two different positions - he can play wide coming in and also as a centre-forward. It will be really difficult but if the manager can add him to the squad I think he will be a happy man.”

Rafa Benitez rules out Bale departure

The player himself has not spoken out about leaving for Old Trafford and even coach Rafa Benitez insisted that the Welshman remains vital to his plans for the upcoming season.

"I'm not going to talk about offers," Benitez said speaking to a press conference, as quoted in The Independent.

"Everything is well and he's (Bale) going to have a good season with us, I'm sure.

“Gareth is a huge player for us and I know that he's happy." he added.
