Liverpool were held to 0-0 draw by Manchester United in a high-intensity game that could have gone in the favour on any side on the day.

Liverpool missed the chance of going three points clear of potential title contenders Manchester City. Manchester United, on the other hand, failed to maintain their position in the top four in the Premier League as Arsenal registered a 2-0 win over Southampton.

Solskjaer has remained unbeaten in 10 Premier League games which is no easy feat given their performances in the first half of the season.

Klopp would certainly not be happy with only a point as Liverpool looked more dominant and confident throughout the game. Liverpool have drawn for the fourth time in their last five fixtures.

Liverpool will expect to win their nest Premier League game against Watford if they want to win their first Premier League title since its inception. United have to win their next Premier League against Crystal Palace to make sure that they remain in the top four race.

Let us take a look at the reasons why Liverpool failed to beat the Solskjaer's men:

#3 Liverpool failed to make the most of their possession

Liverpool had the lion's share of the possession but remained unsuccessful in finding the net. It was for the first time in the Premier League this season that the Reds failed to find the back of the net.

Klopp's men had 64% of the possession but they had only a single shot throughout the game The Reds were almost perfect in all aspects except for in the final third. Liverpool's two of the famed three remained silent throughout 90 minutes of the play.

Firmino, one of the best players for the Reds this season, was certainly missed as he was forced off due to an injury.

Liverpool have lost the magic touch they had in the first half of the season. The Reds could have easily returned from Old Trafford with three points had their finishing been on the point.

#2 Manchester United's defensive masterclass

Liverpool could have easily secured a win if it was not for United's defence.

It was quite surprising that United put in such an incredible defensive performance with the same crop of players that were criticized by their former manager Jose Mourinho. The appointment of Solskjaer has made the players more confident and are determined to win every game in their path.

Every player on the pitch contributed in the defence and proved that United are not going down without a fight. Liverpool attacking players were not given any free space which helped United keep a clean sheet.

#3 Manchester United's injury woes

Solskjaer was forced to make all three substitutions in the first half itself due to injury which included Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata. Herrera and Lingard have been the prominent players of the Norweigan's tactical plans and were missed to a huge extent in an exciting encounter between the two giants.

Rashford was another player in the United squad who failed to make an impact in the game due to an injury. It was nothing less than a miracle that the English forward managed to play for a full 90 minutes.

United could have easily triumphed past the Reds had their all players remained fit for the most important game for the Norwegian so far.
