One of the world’s most talented young goalkeepers in Germany’s Marc-André ter Stegen will not extend his contract which runs until 2015 at Borussia Mönchengladbach and it is expected that he will leave the Niederrhein to join FC Barcelona in the summer to replace Victor Valdes.

Mönchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl announced, “Ter Stegen will leave Borussia. Marc has informed us that will not accept our offer of a new contract. Marc’s decision not to renew does not surprise us. I assume he’ll join the club he has been linked to.”

Mönchengladbach had offered ter Stegen a contract extension beyond his existing contract until 2015 as they wanted to check him at his home club, which he had joined as a child.

There had been rumours and speculations for months that La Liga giants FC Barcelona wanted Marc-André ter Stegen as replacement for Victor Valdes, who is set to leave the Catalans at the end of this season and it was also known that ter Stegen wanted to join FC Barcelona.

A deal is likely to happen in the coming days and weeks.
