Anthony Martial has taken his game to the next level under Jose Mourinho this season

But last season turned out to be a disappointing campaign for him - a meagre tally of just 8 goals- as he struggled due to some personal issues which affected his performance on the pitch.

Jose Mourinho on numerous occasion pinpointed his lack of consistency while admiring the talent that he possesses. "He has to understand what we need from him but it's not just for us but it's also for him," Mourinho explained in April. "If he wants to become a very special player - he can do that - then he has to go in a certain direction."

Several questions were posted against his attitude, whether he would fulfil his potential under Jose Mourinho's coaching or not, as the Portuguese Manager prefers players with strong mentality and desire.

But this season, not only Anthony Martial seems to have found his mojo back but has managed to take his game to next level. Martial is on track for his best ever goal-scoring season, having already scored 11 goals, and has had a hand in five of the eight goals United have scored when he was in starting lineup in 2018.

The Frenchman started his renaissance in the game against Tottenham at Old Trafford in November. The manner in which the substitute took that brilliant winner in the Manchester rain told you that. Martial has proved he is a Mourinho player as he now approaches something resembling his best form again. He has been entrusted by his manager to break the deadlock or find that killer second goal on many occasions this season.

The Young Frenchman has looked much happier in his demeanour this season

At the start of the season, Mourinho sparked a competition between Martial and Rashford as he was rotating them game after game but now it seems that Martial has leapfrogged Rashford in that battle and managed to establish himself as one of the untouchables in Mourinho's preferred side.

Mourinho has also noticed this change in French forward's demeanour by praising him unequivocally on numerous occasions this season. "I see a great improvement in the person, in the mood, in the face, in the body language," said Mourinho in September.

With Alexis Sanchez's arrival in the red half of Manchester, several doubts were raised over his playing time. But Martial has gone quietly about his business and reaffirmed his position in the starting eleven of Manchester United by scoring in all three of Manchester United's Premier League games this month.

"We know he has the talent, We just want consistency." Jose Mourinho said last week when he was quizzed about Martial. The Frenchman is in the form of his life as he scored consecutively in three league games for the first time and the French forward looks to be delivering just that with his performances.
