What's the story?

Former Barcelona and Spain midfielder Andres Iniesta heaped praise on his former teammate Lionel Messi saying that the Argentine can do anything he wants for as long as he wants.

In case you didn't know..

Messi has been one of the most influential players for the Blaugrana since rising to the first team in 2003. The Argentine is considered as one of the best players of all time. The little magician is known for his dribbling, passing, finishing and scoring through direct free-kicks. He is the most humble footballers in the world who cares for his team rather than being individual records.

The 31-year-old forward leads the European Golden Shoe race with 25 goals followed by Kylian Mbappe and Cristiano Ronaldo with 22 and 19 goals respectively. La Pulga is expected to retain the Golden Shoe this season.

The heart of the matter

Spanish legend was speaking to Goal.com and was quoted as saying

I continue to enjoy his game,He is and remains an exceptional player who makes the difference. He scores more goals than anyone else and still gives a lot of assists. He can do whatever he wants, as long as he wants."

Iniesta also emphasized on the importance of Marce Andre Ter Stegen in the current Barcelona squad and said:

"He is an extraordinary person, We always sat next to each other on the team bus and had a very good relationship. Marc-Andre is a phenomenal guy"

Spain World Cup winner further expanded and claimed Ter Stegen as one of the best goalkeepers currently:

For me, he is definitely one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He plays a spectacular season and makes a very safe impression.
He has quick reflexes and instinctively almost always does everything right. He's also strong on the ball. I think his playing style will be the benchmark for the coming years.

What's next?

Messi will play an important role when Barcelona face Real Madrid for the two consecutive Clasicos - the second leg of the Copa del Rey followed by La Liga clash.
