"Messi: The Movie" to hit screens on New Year's Day: Video Trailer

If there is one footballer from present times whose on-field activities need to be digitally stored for the viewership of future generations, it has to be the Catalan wizard – Lionel Andres Messi Cuccittini.

In Alex de la Iglesia’s latest film, “Messi”, the magic of nimble feet combines with the magic of celluloid, making it one of the most eagerly awaited films of 2015. The filmmaker confesses to not having been a fan of football before making the film, and so has built Messi’s persona in the film along the lines of the title character of Orson Welles’s “Citizen Kane” – the boy with the sledge who grew up to be the biggest media magnate of his times.

The film charting Lionel Messi’s journey from his native Rosario to the world’s greatest stage is to hit Spanish theatres on 1st January 2015, and anticipation is at an all-time high for the most looked-forward-to football documentary in a while.

Also starring in the film are Johan Cruyff, Andres Iniesta, Javier Mascherano, Gerard Pique and Diego Maradona.
