Maputo (Mozambique), Oct 12 (IANS) The Mozambican government has expelled the Portuguese coach of a major soccer league club over his outburst of slanderous comment that insulted the nation.

Diamantino Miranda, coach of Costa do Sol, was asked to leave Mozambique by Saturday in an order signed by the country’s Labour Minister Helena Taipo, Xinhua reported Friday.

Enraged by alleged referee faults, the 54-year-old Miranda reportedly cried out “all here are thieves. You are all a bunch of thieves. The country is not serious” to a journalist’s tape recorder after Costa do Sol lost 2-1 to Vilanculos in a match two weeks ago.

In a press briefing organized by Costa do Sol, an emotional Miranda apologized for the remarks and said he held the Mozambican people close to his heart and hoped he could return to Mozambique one day when the truth is restored.
