Reports: €67.5 million superstar to reject Barcelona for Real Madrid in January

Finally, is something going right for Real Madrid?

What's the story?

Very few things are going right for Real Madrid at the moment, and many are tracing this back to the summer transfer window where Los Blancos' circumspect spending left the Madrid squad stretched a bit thin in terms of variety and unable to make the kind of impact of the bench that they so often pulled off last season.

This has been compounded by the fact that Barcelona - lambasted for their bit of summer work - are marauding through the league, Paulinho taking to La Liga like a fish to water, and have now opened up a commanding 10 point lead at the top of the table.

If the good folk over at AS are to be believed, though, there may finally be some good news coming Real Madrid's way as the £60 million (or €67.5 million) rated attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir is all set to go the way of former Lyon protege Karim Benzema and reject other suitors (which in Fekir's case is mainly Barcelona and Arsenal) to join up with Real Madrid.

The Madrid club are confident that he will elect to join them in January and force through a move at the behest of Zinedine Zidane

In case you didn't know

Nabil Fekir was always highly touted but injuries have plagued his young career... when he stays fit, though, he is absolutely electric. This season, he has been involved directly in 15 goals in the 15 matches he's played for Lyon (scored 12, assisted 3) and his scintillating form has earned him a call-up to the power-packed French national team as well. In 2015, Zidane had remarked of him "Watching him play is impressive, he hits the ball so hard and you can see he's got a lot of personality. He impressed me technically", but then's when injury struck the youngster... Zizou is apparently still impressed with him and Fekir's red-hot form makes convincing Florentino Perez an easy job.

The heart of the matter

While Lyon's enigmatic President, Jean Michel Aulas, has insisted that Fekir is going nowhere, Florentino Perez is the one that convinced both Aulas and Benzema that the right thing to do would be to move to Madrid... and if the Madrid president sets his mind to it, the player ought to be his.

Madrid's need is urgent, though, as they struggle to fill the void left by Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez... and they'll be hoping the transfer goes through in January rather than having to wait till next season.

Fekir is fast, capable of beating a man on the dribble, but most importantly he outrageously imaginative and skilled enough to translate said imagination to reality (check out the goal he scores at 2:11 in the video below)

In short, the lad can play.

Author's Take

Fekir would make an excellent addition to Madrid - and would inject a fresh boost of adrenaline into a failing system that strangely seems devoid of freshness and energy. Capable of playing anywhere along a front three, or just in behind, Fekir's presence could just help them steady a rocky, rocky ship.
