Hamilton (Bermuda), Sep 16 (IANS): Striker Nahki Wells is not getting carried away by his early-season form for English League One club Bradford City but remains optimistic he can reach the ambitious 30-goal target he has set for himself this term.

Wells, 23, took his season’s goal tally in all matches to nine – including eight in seven league appearances – with a brace Saturday as Bradford hit back to share the spoils with Colchester in a 2-2 draw at Valley Parade, reports CMC.

The Bermuda international told the Royal Gazette newspaper: “I don’t want to get too carried away because I know there comes a time when you can’t hit an open net.

“It shows that in football it’s not going to be smooth sailing for the entire season and I’m expecting that.”

Talking of his 30-goal target, Wells, who struck 26 goals last season when Bradford earned promotion from League Two, said: “If I can keep up the rate I’m doing then I should be all right.

“I’m still a long way off, but I’m going to do the best I can to achieve it.”

Wells scored in each half as Bradford maintained their unbeaten home record this season although it was the first time they have dropped points at Valley Parade since being promoted.

“I wouldn’t necessarily put it down as one of my best performances because I’ve played better,” Wells said.

“I was just clinical enough to take the two chances that I had. I don’t recall having any other chance in the match.”
