It seems that Indian Football is gaining its lost pride slowly and steadily.

It is a positive sign that overseas clubs are now showing interest to play against Indian football clubs as part of their pre-season tour.

A New Zealand based club, which plays in the Australian football league, will come here in India on the third week of August, to play a four team tournament, which will feature three Indian clubs, United Sikkim, Shillong Lajong and an another undecided club.

According to the latest news came, Wellington Phoenix FC, which plays in the Australian A-League, will play their first match against former Indian Skipper, Baichung Bhutia’s United Sikkim on August 24 in Guwahati. Their next opponent is still undecided but they will play against their opponent on August 26 in Imphal (Manipur). They will face Shillong Lajong on August 30 and their last match will be on September 1, again in Shillong.

There’s a rumour that the fourth undecided team might be I-league team Prayag United, however it is still not sure. This initiative will bring some new hope to Indian Football and playing against overseas teams will certainly raise the level of Indian Football.
