Aston Villa player Ashley Young trolled Manchester United legend Gary Neville for his prediction about Liverpool's top-four hopes following his team's 1-1 draw at Anfield.

The Villans secured a point at the Merseyside on Saturday by holding Jurgen Klopp's rampaging side to a stalemate. Jacob Ramsey gave the visitors a 27th-minute lead while Roberto Firmino equalized for the Reds in the 89th minute.

Liverpool, who had won their previous seven games in the Premier League, unexpectedly dropped points in their penultimate match of the season. Young took this opportunity to take a dig at Neville.

The former Red Devils star predicted Liverpool to win both their remaining games and finish with 71 points. Speaking on Monday Night Football after their win over Leicester City last week, Neville said (via Liverpool Echo):

"Liverpool will get 71 points [two wins from two], I don't think there's any point in Manchester United or Newcastle thinking they don't have to win two matches each out of their last three."

Liverpool were looking to continue their push for the Champions League with another win at the weekend. But the draw left them three points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, who have a game in hand.

Young, a former Manchester United player himself, got back at Neville after Villa's 1-1 draw, by writing on Twitter:

"Nothing like a plan coming together, OOPS [eye emoji] [laughing emoji] @Nev2."

He made the comment by retweeting a clip of Sky Sports Premier League which had Neville and Jamie Carragher predicting how the top-four would look at the end of the season.

Although Liverpool's top-four hopes aren't mathematically over yet, they'll need either Manchester United or Newcastle United, who are also on 69 points, to lose all their remaining games. All this while the Reds themselves beat the already-relegated Southampton on the final day.

What should've been a routine victory ended in a disappointing stalemate for Liverpool, who looked subdued for much of the game. In fact, it took them 50 minutes to register their first shot on target.

While that was saved, Cody Gakpo had a goal ruled out for offside later. Following a few more near misses, they found their way back into the game through departing striker, Roberto Firmino.

Liverpool's unbeaten run in the league extended to nine games, but it was a mortal blow to their Champions League hopes. It must have been especially disappointing considering that the Reds had five shots on target, 67 percent possession, and completed nearly twice as many passes as Villa.
