Manchester United legend Roy Keane has aimed a subtle dig at Marcus Rashford, indirectly comparing him to Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah. His comments arrived following the Reds' impressive 3-2 comeback win over Southampton in the Premier League (November 24).
While the Reds took an early lead via Dominik Szoboszlai (30'), they were left shellshocked after Adam Armstrong (42') and Mateus Fernandes (56') gave Southampton a 2-1 lead. Mohamed Salah (65', 83' p) proved to be the Reds' savior once again, netting a second-half brace to secure all three points for his side.
After dispatching his spot-kick in the 83rd minute, Salah celebrated by taking his shirt off and standing in front of the away end. Keane was left impressed by the Egyptian's physique as he told Sky Sports (via METRO):
"Doesn’t he look in great shape? He looks like a top professional footballer. He’s in great shape. We got close to him when we interviewed him after the game against United [in September]. He’s a Rolls-Royce of a player. Magnificent."
Keane then aimed a dig at Manchester United's Marcus Rashford after the latter was spotted attending an NBA game in New York during the international break. He was criticized by many for not focusing on his football amid his drop in form. Keane added:
"He probably does everything right. Bet he didn’t go to America last week for a few days…"
Salah has arguably been the best player in the league this season, garnering 10 goals and six assists in 12 appearances. Meanwhile, Rashford has struggled for Manchester United, netting four goals and assisting three in 18 appearances across competitions.
Manchester United icon Roy Keane makes bold Liverpool title prediction following Southampton win
Manchester United great Roy Keane believes Liverpool will be favorites for the 2025 Premier League title if they avoid defeat against reigning champions Manchester City. The two giants are set to face each other at Anfield on Sunday, December 1.
Keane said (as per Rousing the Kop):
“It’s a huge game next weekend. If Liverpool can win that or certainly avoid defeat, then they’ll be favourites [for the title].”
Manchester City suffered their fifth defeat in a row across competitions following their 4-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad on November 23. They are currently second in the table with 23 points from 12 games, eight points behind Arne Slot and Co. A win for the Reds next weekend would see them extend this lead to 11 points.
Liverpool have now won 16 out of their 18 games under Slot this season and next face Real Madrid in the UCL on Wednesday, November 27.
