Liverpool will be taking on Wolverhampton Wanderers in a high-voltage Premier League clash today (September 28). However, the biggest news right now from the Liverpool camp is that Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez is set to miss this match. The club informed the same in their website, stating Nunez is not a part of the squad due to illness.
The club shared the news on social media too.
"Darwin Nunez misses out on the squad due to illness," the club posted on X.
Arne Slot has made 10 changes to the Liverpool side from the Carabao Cup game against West Ham United. Notably, Liverpool defeated the Hammers 5-1 midweek.
Darwin Nunez has been an integral part of Arne Slot's squad. This season he has registered six appearances across all competitions and scored a goal. The Uruguay international was really lethal for Jurgen Klopp's contingent last season. In a total of 54 appearances, he managed to find the back of the net 18 times. Moreover, he also delivered 13 assists for his teammates.
More from Wolves vs Liverpool
The Reds are in top form this season, having lost only one game so far (against Nottingham Forest two weeks back) across all competitions. Luis Diaz has been the most influential player for them so far in the Premier League. He has already scored five goals and is starting against Wolves.
Mohamed Salah too is in fine form, having assisted four times and scored thrice in the league this season.
Arne Slot is the first Liverpool manager since Tom Watson in 1896 to secure six wins in opening seven matches. And now a new record awaits the manager. If he manages to secure a win today, he'll become the first Liverpool manager to win each of his first three away fixtures.
Also, Liverpool have won 14 of their last 15 Premier League clashes against the Wolves. Wolves, on the other hand, are the bottom-placed side in the league with just one point from five matches so far. They will now face a herculean task, as Liverpool are placed second and in red hot form. A win today will help the Reds move up to the top of the table.
Meanwhile, if Wolves emerge victorious against Liverpool today, they will move up to the 17th or 16th position. However, that will depend on Crystal Palace's final result against Everton. Gary O'Neil's side are yet to taste victory in the Premier League this season, and a win will boost their confidence ahead of the clash against Brentford next week.
