Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev has claimed that he would compare himself to Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp. He believes they are similar because they were bad in the early days of the German manager, but still managed to get results.
Speaking to the media after his win over Adam Walton at the Almaty tournament, Medvedev was asked to compare himself to a football club. He was quick to name Liverpool, but claimed that he was more like Klopp's side, and said (via A Bola):
"Which football team would you compare me to? What a difficult question. Maybe I would compare myself to L'pool of Jürgen Klopp right after his arrival, when they still played badly, but always managed to get a draw or a win in the end."
The tennis world has seen many stars show their love for Liverpool, with Danish star Caroline Wozniacki revealing in 2023 that she supports the Reds and enjoys going to Anfield. She was quoted by The Mirror as saying:
"I first came to Anfield for the first time maybe five years ago, and I've been back about four more times. I love all the traditions of the club and I know a few guys on the team. I love coming to watch the games. The atmosphere is just amazing."
"I came straight from Istanbul this time, and it was great because I had loads of tweets about being in the city where L'pool won that famous European Cup final. Whenever I go back there all the great memories of that game come flooding back."
Wozniacki added that she started supporting the Reds after visiting Merseyside in 2008.
Tennis star paid tribute to Liverpool star Diogo Jota
Portuguese tennis player Francisco Cabral wore a black ribbon during his Wimbledon in July, hours after Liverpool star Diogo Jota passed away. He revealed that his plan was to wear a black armband, but he was not allowed and said (via GOAL):
“Yesterday the idea of wearing a black strap came up – that was not allowed. I asked for permission to use the black ribbon and they let me play with it. It was an honour – it was not for the best reason. He was an inspiration not only for me but for the country in general.”
“He made so much in the sport and conquered so much in my life. It was an honour for me to try and help. If I helped one percent for the family I will be super happy.”
Diogo Jota passed away on July 3, along with his brother, after a car accident while he was on his way to Liverpool for pre-season.
