Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman insists that Liverpool summer signing Jeremie Frimpong is actually a right winger with the ball at his feet. The Dutchman seems to have warned Arne Slot against using Frimpong as a full-back.

Slot secured his first Premier League title in his debut campaign at Anfield last season. The Merseysiders displayed exceptional form, winning 25 games and finishing ten points ahead of second-placed Arsenal.

As manager Slot and club captain Virgil van Dijk revealed in the latter half of the season, Liverpool are set for a 'busy' transfer window this summer. With Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure to Real Madrid, the Reds signed Bayer Leverkusen's Frimpong as his replacement for a reported £30 million. They have been actively pursuing Florian Wirtz and Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez as well.

Frimpong has impressed with his performances in the Bundesliga, playing a key role in Leverkusen's historic triumph in the 2023-24 campaign, completing the entire season without a defeat.

While Liverpool's intent is likely to replace Alexander-Arnold with Frimpong in the right-back position, Koeman suggests otherwise. Speaking after the Netherlands' 2-0 win over Finland in the World Cup qualifiers last Sunday (June 8), Koeman said (via Tribal Football):

“I think it's the first time that Jeremie and Denzel (Dumfries, Inter Milan) played together. In my opinion, Jeremie is a right winger on the ball. Denzel will have to deal with that. He has that ability. It's also a lot of experience and playing matches with Jeremie. I'm positive about that.”

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk reveals one league he will not join before retirement

Virgil van Dijk has revealed that he will not return to the Eredivisie before he hangs up his boots. The Liverpool captain insists that retiring in his home country is not on the cards.

Van Dijk began his professional career at Eredivisie side FC Groningen, playing for the senior team for two years before joining Celtic in 2013. The Netherlands are set to face Malta in the World Cup qualifiers at the Euroborg Stadion, FC Groningen's home ground, on Tuesday (June 10).

Speaking to the media ahead of the fixture, Van Dijk was asked about his retirement plans. The former Southampton center-back said (via Tribal Football):

"I am very clear about that: I will not return to the Netherlands. I started here, and that was very important to me. I am very clear that I do not want to return to the Eredivisie. I am quite proud of my career so far and I think that finishing in the Eredivisie is not an option."
