Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has claimed that he would love to play alongside Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero at the Reds.
During a recent chat with TNT Sports, Mac Allister was queried to name a star he would like his current club to sign in the future. The Liverpool ace replied (h/t Sport Witness):
"Oh, Cuti. He's a player I love. The way he speaks and plays, sometimes you feel like he's too much because he makes everything so easy. He gives me confidence. For me, he's been the best centre-back in the world for several years. [Virgil] van Dijk, with his height, already commands a lot of respect."
Romero, 27, is regarded one of the best centre-backs in the world owing to his great performances for both Tottenham and Argentina. He helped Spurs win the UEFA Europa League crown last season. He also guided his national team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup trophy and the Copa America crowns in 2021 and 2024.
Since departing Atalanta in the summer of 2021, Romero has played for Tottenham 124 times across all competitions. He has netted seven goals and laid out three assists for the north London outfit so far.
Club manager opines on Liverpool-linked striker
Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has provided his thoughts on Julian Alvarez reportedly attracting attention from top European teams. He told Argentine outlet La Nacion (h/t Metro):
"It's logical, I can't imagine any other scenario. Julian is 25 years old, he's an extraordinary player, with hunger, with enthusiasm, with humility, with work, with goals, with status. How could everyone not want him? And Barcelona, PSG, Arsenal, Liverpool... the best have to want him."
Opining more on the 46-cap Argentina international, Simeone added:
"And for us, Atletico fans, it should be a source of pride that everyone wants him. Why? Because he's ours. And since he's ours, we have to take care of him. We have to help him feel happy. How will he feel happy? By winning. And to get there, we all have to give 110 per cent. And not just for him, of course, but for everyone."
Alvarez, 25, has found the back of the net 29 times and registered seven assists in 54 appearances in all competitions for Atletico Madrid so far.
During his time at Manchester City, the River Plate youth product scored 36 goals and provided 19 assists in 103 matches across all competitions.
