Tottenham Hotspur winger Son Heung-min has named Manchester United great Roy Keane the best captain in Premier League history. Former player Keane was one of the most successful captains in the league, and Son has lavished praise on the Irishman.
Son recently revealed that he watched plenty of Manchester United games to watch South Korean great Park Ji-sung in action. He insisted that he became Keane's fan as he watched the all-action midfielder play.
The Tottenham Hotspur attacker also hailed Roy Keane for delivering a lot of success for the Red Devils. Son told Sky Sports:
"I'm going to have to say Roy Keane. Because of Park (Ji-sung), I watched a lot of United games. He was just everywhere, had what a center midfielder needed and won a lot of titles."
Roy Keane enjoyed an illustrious career during which he featured for clubs like Cobh Ramblers, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, and Celtic. He was on the books of the Red Devils from 1993 to 2005 and also captained them from 1997 until his departure.
Keane made a total of 479 appearances for the English giants, scoring 51 goals and providing 39 assists. He won 17 trophies during his time at Old Trafford, including seven Premier League titles and one Champions League trophy.
Meanwhile, Son Heung-min has etched his name as one of the best attackers in the Premier League during his time at Tottenham Hotspur. Since joining the Lilywhites in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen, he has made 408 appearances for the north London side, scoring 162 goals and providing 84 assists.
Jamie Carragher lauds Manchester United wonderkid
Former Liverpool defender-turned-pundit Jamie Carragher has heaped praise on Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. Erik ten Hag's side got off to a winning start, beating Fulham 1-0 in the Premier League 2024-25 season opener on Friday, August 16.
Mainoo started the game in the middle of the park and was replaced in the 84th minute. He had a passing accuracy of 90% (37/41) and won three out of three tackles. Following the game, Jamie Carragher singled out the 19-year-old. He told Sky Sports:
"I think he has been an absolute revelation. I love watching him play and what he did in the summer. He came through last season, we were asking questions about United’s midfield. It was Casemiro needs a partner, now it’s Mainoo needs a partner. I think he is going to be a superstar."
Mainoo has established himself as a key player for both Manchester United and England following a breakthrough 2023-24 season. He has so far registered five goals and an assist in 37 senior appearances for the Red Devils while being capped nine times for England.
