Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn hailed the Gunners' new signing Eberechi Eze, terming him a game-changer. He believes that the Englishman brings an X-factor with him, having played a key role in Crystal Palace's FA Cup triumph last term.
Speaking to EPL Index, Winterburn claimed that Eze was a player who would excite the fans. He believed that the signing made Mikel Arteta's side stronger and said:
“He is a game changer, he is a player who lights up the stadium, he gets fans off their seat. This is a great signing for Arsenal, to further Strengthen what is already a packed squad of highly talented footballers.”
Talking about the Englishman getting the #10 jersey, he said:
“It’s very exciting wear the number 10 as well which is famous for Bergkamp and Eze can show his skills on the pitch which we are all excited to see after the international break.”
Winterburn added that Eze brings the winning mentality to the side, which was missing under Mikel Arteta.
“This is what you need to complete in all competitions and Eze brings a winning mentality to the team, having won the FA Cup.”
Interestingly, the Gunners released Eze when he was just 13 years old, and have now paid a reported £67.5 million to sign him from Crystal Palace. He was reportedly on the verge of signing for Tottenham Hotspur before a move to the Emirates.
Eze will help Arsenal in title race, claims Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison opened up about Eberechi Eze's move to Arsenal, claiming that the Englishman would give the Gunners the 'X-factor' needed in a title race. He believes that the new signing is better than Gabriel Martinelli, saying on Sky Sports:
"I already think Arsênal are in the title race, but signing Eze would take them even closer to Liverpool. He’s the X-factor they’ve been missing. A lot of Arsenal fans have said they need a winger to compete with Martinelli. Personally, I think Eze is better than Martinelli. He’ll give you more goals and more assists.
"There are games, like the one I was at against Manchester United last weekend, where Arsênal needed someone to put their foot on the ball, drive them up the pitch, win free kicks — that’s exactly what Eze does. I think it’s a great move. Tottenham will be gutted to miss out, but he’s an Arsenal fan."
Eze made his Gunners debut in the 1-0 loss at Liverpool on Sunday, August 31. His first home match could be against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, September 13.
