Andre Onana has admitted that Bruno Fernandes should never play as a center-back at Manchester United. He believes that the Portuguese star should always be in the midfield and should never be forced to play in the backline.

Speaking to the media after the 3-0 win over Southampton on Saturday (September 14), Onana stated that he wanted a good run of matches with the same backline. He believes that they cannot keep changing and using midfielders in in defense and said:

"And if Casemiro has to play centre- back, I have to deal with the situation. Sometimes we have him Bruno [Fernandes] centre back and he's not the best there, but we try to do our best."

Talking about his penalty save and the three points, Onana added:

"It felt very good to save that penalty, it was an important moment for us and a key situation for us. After the penalty, we took control of the game and it counts that we won the game. Yeah, I would say it's the turning point for us, we had a great game, a clean sheet and we move on, learning from our mistakes."

Manchester United scored minutes after Andre Onana saved a penalty, with De Ligt heading the ball past Aaron Ramsdale. Marcus Rashford made it 2-0 before the break, and Alejandro Garnacho sealed the three points with a third deep into the second half's stoppage time.

Andre Onana heaps praise on Manchester United teammate

Andre Onana was full of praise for Marcus Rashford after the Manchester United star scored against Southampton. He claimed that the Englishman showed what he is capable of. He said:

"He had a tough season last year, you know. He wasn't at his best, like all of us, but today we showed himself, he showed he is a great player, one of the best in the world, but that's football and life. Sometimes you will struggle, sometimes you will face difficulties, but it's not about how you fall, it's about how many times you can stand up, no?"
"Today he came back again, scored an important goal for us and hopefully he'll do much more for us. I'm really happy for him because he needs his goals. Playing for this amazing club, there is a price to pay, every game when you lose it looks like it's the end of the world, but you need to stand strong, stand together and keep fighting."

Manchester United moved to ninth in the Premier League after getting their second win of the season.
