Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has shared his thoughts on the club's new head coach Ruben Amorim, praising him for his work at his previous club. The Portuguese tactician has resumed at the club's Carrington training base ahead of his first game in charge after the international break.
Fernandes shares a lot in common with Amorim, with both of them leaving the Estadio Jose Alvalade to move to Old Trafford. Both of them have played for the Portuguese national team, as well, further deepening their connection.
Bruno Fernandes is yet to meet his new coach, as he is on duty with the Portugal national team, as they prepare for two UEFA Nations League matches against Poland and Croatia. The midfielder did, however, speak with the club's in-house media about his excitement at working with his compatriot at the club.
"You see the way [Sporting players] say goodbye to him, the way they feel, they make him feel part of the team and how they treat him. So it shows that this is a great character, and he's someone that gives his all to the players," Fernandes said via Utd District.
“Obviously for me, what stands out is the connection he has with the players. Us players with the most experience, we have to help him to get that and get the best out of every player at this club," he added via Fabrizio Romano.
Bruno Fernandes narrowly missed out on playing under Ruben Amorim at Sporting, with the tactician leaving Braga for the club in March 2020, two months after the midfielder moved to Manchester United. The pair will get to work together in England, with Amorim having signed a deal until 2027.
Ruben Amorim arrives England with a huge reputation as one of the finest young coaches in world football. He led Sporting to 11 successive wins to start the 2024-25 season, leaving them in a good position to retain the Primeira Liga title they won in the 2023-24 season.
Manchester United star returns to action for first time since 2023
Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia has returned to action in time for the arrival of Ruben Amorim at the club. The Dutchman featured for the club's U-21 side in their 1-4 defeat to Huddersfield Town in the EFL Trophy.
Left-back Malacia was one of the first additions made by Erik ten Hag when he became manager in 2022, and the 25-year-old played 39 times in his debut season for the club. However, he has been out of action since the end of the 2022-23 season, missing 17 months of action after undergoing two knee surgeries.
Malacia played the first 45 minutes against the League One side as he is being eased back into action following his lengthy layoff. He was replaced by academy star Harry Amass after the interval as Manchester United crashed out of the competition.
