Gary Lineker has lavished praise on Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold following the England international's performance against Fulham on Sunday (April 21).

Liverpool managed to defeat the home side 3-1 and saw their right-back bag the first goal of the match. Alexander-Arnold fired home a stunning free-kick from just outside the box in the 32nd minute.

Speaking about the full-back, Lineker told The Rest is Football podcast (via The Boot Room):

"Did you see the Trent Alexander-Arnold free-kick? Gorgeous, wasn't it?"

Adding about the troubles that England could face in choosing their right-back for the European Championships in the summer, he added:

"I'm sure he will (get into the England squad). He's got something different in certain games. Everyone knows I'm a huge fan of Trent, I love watching him play. As a striker, you'd love to play with him. His crossing of the ball is as good as anyone. His passing is as good as anyone's in the English game."
"He's also quite versatile as he can play right-back, I don't think that's actually his most natural position. I think he's more of a midfield player as he was a kid. I think it was only when he got into the first team he started playing as a right-back and he's pretty damn good at it. He was seen as the best in the world for a long time."

Overall this season, Alexander-Arnold has made 32 appearances across competitions for Liverpool, bagging three goals and nine assists. Expect him to start for the Reds in their Merseyside derby against Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday (April 24).

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has clarified that his favorite position remains right-back despite suggestions that the defender may prefer a midfield role.

The statement comes at a time when England fans and pundits are discussing the nation's first-choice right-back before the start of the Euros. Currently, the likes of Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker are also battling it out for a full-back slot on the right-hand side.

Amid these circumstances, the Reds man told The Overlap (via SPORTbible):

"I'd say I see myself as a right back. I see myself who can probably play in both positions if needed. My focus until I'm told otherwise by the gaffer, is that I'm still a right-back."

So far, the 25-year-old has made 23 appearances across competitions for his country, bagging two goals and five assists. He made his debut back in June 2018 in a 2-0 friendly win against Costa Rica.
