Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he wanted to return to football but not as a manager. The German tactician is set to take over as RedBull's Head of Global Soccer from January 1, 2025.
Taking to Instagram, Klopp posted a video for his fans to explain why he was joining RedBull.
He said:
"Hi, some of you might have heard already, some of you won't. From 1st of January 2025, I will be head of global soccer at RedBull. Few months ago, I said I don't see myself on the sidelines anymore and it's still the case. But I still love football and still live working. And RedBull gives me the perfect platform for that. I want to share my experience. Which I collected over the years and we all know, they are much more successful managers out there, but in my career, I fought for a promotion, I fought against relegation, I fought for titles and I fought for trophies. Sometimes we failed, sometimes we succeeded and dealing with, that is not easy but it's possible.
"Then I want to learn again because when you're in the job and you have to play every three days, you barely have time for that. And now I have time and I have the opportunity. And I want to see and feel and figure out what is useful for football. So developing football a little bit as well. All said, really looking forward to it, but now I go back on my holiday."
As per Sky Sports, Jurgen Klopp has a clause in his RedBull contract that allows him to take over as the Germany national team boss when Julian Nagelsmann leaves his position.
Why did Jurgen Klopp leave Liverpool?
Jurgen Klopp left his position as the Liverpool manager at the end of the 2023/24 season. The German claimed that he was running out of energy and was thus taking a step away from the sidelines.
The tactician reportedly had offers to takeover as the Germany and United States boss but rejected both offers. He has stuck with his plan to stay away from the sidelines as he wants to spend time with his family.
Nagelsmann has a contract with DFB until 2026 FIFA World Cup and reports claim Jurgen Klopp will be taking over after the tournament in the United States of America.
