Inter Miami striker Luis Suarez has penned a new contract with the Herons that will see him continue to play with Lionel Messi at the club for another year. The veteran striker has extended his contract, which will see him at the Chase Stadium till the end of the 2025 MLS campaign.
Suarez left Gremio after his contract expired with the Brazilian outfit in December 2023 to join Inter Miami on a one-year deal until January 2025. The Uruguayan striker was attracted by the thoughts of a reunion with the likes of Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets, and agreed to move to Florida for a season.
On the back of the striker's displays during the 2024 season, Inter Miami have now handed him a contract extension, the club has announced. The former Barcelona and Liverpool man will remain on the books of the MLS Supporters' Shield holders until the end of the 2025 MLS season, at least.
Luis Suarez found the back of the net 20 times in 27 regular season games in the MLS, level with Lionel Messi in second place for the MLS Golden Boot. The Uruguayan, who retired from international football this year, was pivotal in the Herons ending the regular season with a new MLS points record.
Suarez scored one goal and assisted another in the playoffs as much-fancied Herons crashed out at the hands of Atlanta United in the first round. He ended his debut campaign in pink with 25 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions, a remarkable tally for a 37-year-old player.
Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi will have another familiar face in the team for the 2025 season in the person of new manager Javier Mascherano. They will try to lead their club to success in the 2025 season.
Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez's sons feature for Inter Miami academy
Thiago Messi, oldest son of Lionel Messi, and Benjamin Suarez, son of Luis Suarez, were both in action for the Inter Miami academy in Rosario. They featured in the Newell's Cup in Rosario as part of the Herons' U-13 team.
Thiago and Benjamin both sported their respective fathers' shirt numbers in the game against the Newell's Old Boy's academy, with the former taking the number ten and the latter, number nine. Inter Miami lost 0-1 to the Argentine club, which had Messi Sr in its academy for five years.
While La Pulga was not in attendance, presumably due to other engagements, his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, was in the stands for the game. The parents of the 37-year-old, Jorge and Celia, were also in the stands to watch their 12-year-old grandson play.
