Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has taken a cheeky dig at Cristiano Ronaldo again and named his former teammate Lionel Messi as the best in the world. He added that Messi's presence will be important for the Club World Cup.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Aguero claimed that Inter Miami were unable to win silverware before Messi arrived, and he had shown what he was capable of. He added that the Club World Cup will be an important tournament for the MLS side and said:

"I think this is something that is quite important for Inter Miami, and especially knowing that Leo is there. And I think that for the world as a whole and for the fans, it was quite important that Inter Miami be included, too, because by now, we know that Messi is… Although it may be painful for some, he is one of the players that everyone wants to see.
"So, I think that it will be great to see Inter Miami compete against the other teams, and especially see the Inter Miami version of Messi, who is accomplishing everything now in MLS, and they won a title that, for a number of years [they hadn’t], or I don't know if they have ever won anything."

Lionel Messi helped Inter Miami win the Leagues Cup in 2023, just days after joining the club, and then played a key role in winning the MLS Supporters' Shield in 2024. Cristiano Ronaldo is still looking to win a major trophy with Al Nassr and has only managed the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023.

Cristiano Ronaldo confirms he will not be facing Lionel Messi at the Club World Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that he is unlikely to play at the FIFA Club World Cup this month. He admitted that there were offers for him to join several sides, but he was not planning a move because of his other goals. He said (via Fabrizio Romano):

"It's almost decided that I will not take part at the FIFA Club World Cup despite receiving many invitations and proposals. There have been talks, contacts… but you have to think about short, medium and long term."

Wydad Casablanca and Al Hilal were the concrete offers, per GOAL, while former Manchester United defender Rafael pushed Cristiano Ronaldo to join Botafogo in Brazil. Lionel Messi's participation is confirmed, with Inter Miami grouped alongside Al Ahly, FC Porto and Palmeiras.
