Marseille midfielder Adrien Rabiot has revealed that he rejected a move to Manchester United in 2023 due to the Red Devils' troubles on the pitch. The Frenchman stated that he received an offer from the English giants in 2024 as well, but he rejected them again.

Speaking to The Athletic, Rabiot said that in 2023, when his contract at Juventus was about to expire, Manchester United made a move for his signature. He opted to stay for another season with the Turin side and the Red Devils returned with another offer when his contract expired in 2024.

However, he opted to rebuff their advances, as the club was not heading in the right direction. He said:

"It really could have happened two years ago, when I was coming to the end of my contract at Juventus and I finally decided to extend by a year. We had great talks and there were written offers. But in the end, it didn't happen. Last year as well, when I was free, they came back in again. I had good talks with them again. But it's true that it was a bit tricky. The situation they're in at the moment… I felt a bit of reticence about whether United were going to be able to go on and achieve great things. Because they're in a bit of a hole at the moment."

Rabiot went on to join Marseille in Ligue1, despite having played for PSG in the past.

Manchester United legend wanted club to sign Adrien Rabiot in 2024

Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole spoke about Adrien Rabiot in 2024 and urged the Red Devils to sign the midfielder. He claimed that the Frenchman had done well in his career and would succeed at Old Trafford.

He told Betfred (via Stretty News):

"I remember watching him when he was a kid at Manchester City. He's the same age as my son and they were both at the club at the same time. I could tell that he had something about him and was very talented. If the opportunity came around to sign him on a free, then why wouldn't you consider it?"

"He's done very well for Juventus, he's a mainstay in the French national team and it's not easy to get in that side because of some of the midfielders they have. I think he's a really good player and he would definitely improve what Manchester United have. Thinking long-term again, he would make Manchester United a better team and I wouldn't turn my nose up at it if you can get him on a free. He's a good player."

Manchester United ended up signing Manuel Ugarte from PSG in the summer of 2024, but sold Scott McTominay to Serie A side Napoli. They have now released Christian Eriksen and are reportedly in the market for a new midfielder.
