Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has suggested that he is unhappy with his lack of minutes this season amid reports of a summer exit.
Earlier on Monday (May 19), Elliott made his second league start for Arne Slot's outfit in a 3-2 loss at Brighton & Hove Albion. He scored the opener in the ninth minute before assisting Dominik Szoboszlai's goal just before the half-time break.
However, Liverpool dropped points for the third straight league game as Brighton produced a stellar second half display. After Yasin Ayari's 32nd minute goal, Kaoru Mitoma and Jack Hinshelwood netted one goal each in the 69th and 85th minute respectively.
After the end of the Premier League encounter, Elliott was asked to share his thoughts on his recent performance at Amex Stadium. He responded to Sky Sports (h/t Rousing The Kop):
"You try not to get too carried away with the celebrations, we've worked really hard through the season. Some lads like myself haven't played as much through the season, and it's about going out and enjoying it. We want to win and enjoy it. We need to take the positives and take it into the final game next week."
Elliott, who left Fulham to join the Reds in the summer of 2019, added:
"I think I've done it this season. It's been hard with how much I've played. I've tried as hard as I could, and whatever happens, happens. It's about what's best for my career. It's about reflecting and seeing what I can do. I'm here at the moment and I'm focusing on the final game."
Elliott, 22, has started just six of his 27 appearances across competitions for Liverpool this season. The left-footed attacking midfielder has netted five goals and laid out three assists in 817 minutes of action this term.
The Reds star is reportedly a Wolverhampton Wanderers transfer target.
Liverpool eyeing move for Bundesliga star
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool are aiming to launch a summer move for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz. But, they would only lodge a bid if the midfielder confirms that he is keen to leave Germany.
Wirtz, who has allegedly also been linked with Bayern Munich of late, has a contract until June 2027 at Leverkusen. As a result, he is currently rated at around £126 million by his boyhood club.
The 29-cap Germany international contributed 16 goals and provided 15 assists in 45 overall appearances for Leverkusen in the 2024-25 season.
