"It's a massive result" - Jamie Carragher reacts as Liverpool defeat Fulham 3-1 in Premier League fixture

Sky Sports pundit Jaime Carragher has praised Liverpool for their victory over Fulham in the Premier League at Craven Cottage on Sunday, April 21. The Merseyside club overcame their London opposition to keep pace with Manchester City and Arsenal in the hunt for the league title.

The Reds beat bottom-half Fulham with a comfortable 3-1 scoreline to move into second behind Arsenal on goal difference. While City have a game in hand and trail the pair by a solitary point, it will now be up to them to keep up in the league.

The former Reds defender said on Sky Sports after the match:

"A massive result for Liverpool, not just in terms of the title race and the three points. They needed to get back on track. And actually, midweek, Liverpool won the game, went out the competition but I think Jurgen Klopp used that almost like 'Liverpool are back. We've got a clean sheet, we won the game'.

The former England international concluded:

"This was a step up again in terms of performance. Still they could do better, of course, but it's a massive result now. Liverpool right now, five games to go in the Premier League, level on top with Arsenal just [behind] on goal difference... it's a great position to be in."

Trent Alexander-Arnold (32'), Ryan Gravenberch (53'), and Diogo Jota (72') scored for the Merseysiders while Timothy Castagne (45+2') got one for Fulham.

Liverpool boss reveals his side have to fight through games after 3-1 Premier League away win over Fulham

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has discussed how his side have to fight for every game after they beat Fulham 3-1 in a close league game. The Premier League hopefuls managed to secure a win to send them second on the table at their host's expense and send Manchester City down to third.

This season has been closely contested among the top three sides, with all three swapping positions regularly. Jurgen Klopp will be glad his side could secure the victory despite stern opposition from their hosts at Craven Cottage.

Speaking on the victory after the match, the German tactician said:

"Unfortunately, we played all the others [too]. In periods where you don't score, it's easy to talk about. For the boys, it's tough. You have to get through this. I liked the performance, I liked the options. It's a good squad situation. We need all of them, we need to fight through games and we have the derby to focus on."

The Reds will hope they can send Klopp off with a Premier League title after he announced his imminent departure at the end of the season. Manchester City and Arsenal will hope they can spoil the party, with the reigning champions and North Londoners also keen to lift the title.
