“Just a rich man’s Jadon Sancho” – Liverpool star gets mocked by fans after ‘awful’ performance in 1-1 draw with Aston Villa

Liverpool could only salvage a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday (May 20) and fans have taken apart Luis Diaz for a poor showing.

The Reds played their final home game of the 2022-23 league game and looked to mark the occasion with a win, but misfired badly.

Jacob Ramsey's first-half strike was leading Villa to a shock victory. However, departing Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino, who made his final Anfield appearance, scored in the 89th minute to salvage a point.

Liverpool's seven-game winning run came to an end, and so did their hopes of finishing in the top four with Manchester United now three points clear of them. The Red Devils also have a game in hand.

The home side were the favorites to prevail here against a struggling Villa side that had won only twice in their last six top-flight outings but struggled to break them down.

Diaz was caught in the eye of the storm after the game as the Colombian failed to shine, continuing his poor run of form with Liverpool. He failed to muster a single effort on target, completed just one of his five dribble attempts, and only had 17 accurate passes in 72 minutes.

Fans took to Twitter to mock the 26-year-old, with one user saying that he isn't cut to play against "deep blocks." Another one noted that Diaz has had just "one good game" since his return from a lengthy injury spell.

Here are some of the best Twitter reactions:

Luis Diaz unable to build on his fast Liverpool start

Luis Diaz joined Liverpool on a €45 million transfer from Porto in January 2022 and hit the ground running. He scored four goals and made three assists in 13 appearances in the Premier League last season, setting a high bar ahead of his first full season with the club.

However, with a contribution of just six goals, the Colombian has certainly failed to live up to them. He's struck four times and made two assists in 16 games, and injuries have a big role to play here.

Diaz was sidelined for six months with a knee injury that saw him miss a total of 31 games. He only returned to action in mid-April and has since scored only once in the league from eight appearances, although half of them came off the bench.

Such a lengthy injury lay-off would have an impact on any player and Diaz will be hoping to return to his best next season after a full pre-season.
