The Netherlands have announced their first XI for their opening game of the UEFA Euro 2024 against Poland on Sunday (June 16). But fans are upset to see centre-back Matthijs de Ligt on the bench.Drawn in a tough Group D with France and Austria, the Oranje face a tough battle to reach the knockouts. Ronald Koeman is back in the hotseat and will oversee the first major tournament of his second spell as the head coach after finishing runner-up in the 2018-19 UEFA Nations League in his first stint.Now in his first starting lineup of Euro 2024, the 61-year-old has sprung a surprise by benching De Ligt, the Bayern Munich star who was touted to play a big role in their campaign. Instead, Koeman has picked a centre-back pairing of Liverpool ace Virgil van Dijk and his Inter Milan counterpart Stefan de Vrij.Fans, though, aren't impressed with the decision, and have made their disappointment known by taking to X, formerly Twitter.
