New Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has spoken about playing against compatriot Kylian Mbappe, who just joined Real Madrid. The France youth international turned down a chance to play alongside Mbappe at Los Blancos, favoring a move to England, instead.
Yoro was on the radar of the European champions after impressing at boyhood club Lille, and the Spanish giants were keen on signing him. However, with one year left on his contract, they refused to pay above what they considered to be a reasonable fee for the 18-year-old.
Manchester United stepped in at the 11th hour to seal a deal to sign the French teenager for around €62 million plus €8 million in add-ons. Yoro headed to Old Trafford on a five-year contract, and has already made his unofficial debut for the club in a friendly against Rangers.
Leny Yoro gave his first official interview since joining the club and spoke about playing against Kylian Mbappe during his time with Lille. He told the club's media that facing Mbappe helped him become a better player.
“I really like to play against of course Mbappe," he said.
"I was a really big, big, big, big, deal, so yeah for me it helped me a lot to improve myself," he added.
The young Frenchman has been pleased to sign with the Red Devils this summer and is looking forward to developing into one of the world's best defenders. He put on a good performance in his debut against Rangers as he played 45 minutes in the 2-0 win in Edinburgh.
Yoro and his Manchester United teammates are unlikely to face Mbappe and Real Madrid this season, seeing as they are not in the UEFA Champions League. They will aim to finish among the Premier League's top four sides to make it back to the summit of European football.
