Jamie Carragher has continued taking aim at Mohamed Salah for his recent comments hinting at a Liverpool exit next summer. Carragher was furious with the Egyptian for causing a distraction ahead of the Reds' UEFA Champions League clash with Real Madrid (November 27).
Salah made headlines on the weekend when he gave an update on his future at Anfield. He told reporters he was 'more out than in' with just seven months left on his contract.
Carragher said he was disappointed with Salah on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football for the timing of his comments. He has doubled down on his stance with a post on X highlighting how fans of the Egyptian are playing down the contract bombshell:
"Mo Salah only answered a question, is the new nonsense all his fan boys are spouting!!! Wait until you see how many questions Arne Slot gets asked about Salah’s comments, the talk should be about two of Europe’s giants coming up against each other not contracts!"
Liverpool are in action tomorrow against Madrid before facing Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday (December 1). It's a vital period for Arne Slot's team who are top of the table in both competitions.
Salah has been shining with 12 goals and 10 assists in 18 games across competitions. He's been at Anfield since July 2017 but could depart next summer.
Saudi Arabian clubs give Mohamed Salah ultimatum for Liverpool exit: Reports
Mohamed Salah has been intensely linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League over the past year and a half. Liverpool rejected a £100 million offer from Saudi giants Al-Ittihad for the forward in September 2023, per ESPN.
Al-Ittihad are one of several Saudi clubs who were expected to pursue Salah next summer especially if he becomes a free agent. That might not be the case though unless the Reds' all-time continental top scorer pushes for the move.
Sky Sports reports that Saudi clubs won't make a move for Salah unless he tells the Saudi Pro League he wants to head to the Middle East. They are leaving the ball in his court after missing out on him a year ago.
Salah has a good relationship with SPL director Michael Emenalo, who has constantly discussed a potential transfer. Some Saudi clubs want him but are waiting for the player to give them the go-ahead.
