“Please stop the war” – Mesut Ozil sends strong message by condemning the ongoing Israel-Hamas war

Former Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil has spoken out to the fans on the ongoing Israel-Hamas war which is the biggest news story in the world right now.

The former Arsenal star took to Instagram and made his views on the Israel-Palestine conflict known by saying that the war should be stopped. He also stated that innocent people and children are losing their lives on both sides due to the violence.

"Praying for humanity. Praying for peace. Innocent people especially innocent kids are losing their lives in the war - on both sides. It's so heartbreaking & sad. PLEASE STOP THE WAR!!!"

In 2021, Ozil took a similar stand when he was playing for Fenerbahce. The former Germany midfielder wore a 'Free Palestine' t-shirt before the match got underway.

His former Arsenal teammate, who still plays for the North London club, Mohamed Elneny has also displayed his support towards Palestine in the ongoing conflict. He changed his profile picture to show the flag of Palestine with the Dome of the Rock in the background.

When did Mesut Ozil announce his retirement from professional football?

Former Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil announced his retirement from professional football in March, earlier this year. He announced his retirement via social media and wrote via his Instagram account:

"I’ve had the privilege to be an international footballer for almost 17 years now and I feel incredibly thankful for the opportunity.
“But in recent weeks and months, having also suffered some injuries, it’s become more and more clear that it’s time to leave the big stage of football.”

Ozil's former teammates such as Jerome Boateng, Petr Cech, Kaka, and more commented on the post and wished the former German midfielder a happy retirement.

During the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Mesut Ozil was an important part of the German team which defeated Lionel Messi's Argentina to win their fourth crown. He was also shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or during that time.

However, the later stages of his career were filled with troubles and problems. Ozil made a total of 645 appearances in his career and recorded 114 goals and 222 assists. He last played for Basaksehir in Super Lig.
