Fans reckon Portugal could win Euro 2024 after Cristiano Ronaldo produced a 35-goal league season, like he did before their Euro 2016 triumph. The 39-year-old had also struck 35 times for Real Madrid during the 2015-16 La Liga campaign.

In one of the most fascinating titles races in European football, Barcelona (92) pipped Los Blancos by a point to win the title, despite Ronaldo netting 35 times in 36 games. The Portugal captain would end the season with 51 goals, having also struck 16 times in Madrid's victorious UEFA Champions League campaign.

Fast forward eight years, Ronaldo has produced another 50-goal campaign - including 35 strikes in the league, a record in a Saudi Pro League season. Could history repeat itself as Portugal look to add to their 2016 Euro success this summer?

"We're coming for it," said Milinda Chakma.
"We go again this year," tweeted Legion.

Another fan reckons if Portugal win the upcoming Euros, the GOAT debate would be settled.

"If Ronaldo wins the Euro, then the GOAT debate is finally over. 2xEuro > 1 WC," tweeted Adwik Bairangi with a reference to Lionel Messi's 2022 FIFA World Cup win.

Ronaldo is up to 50 goals in as many games across competitions this season. The Al-Nassr captain will look to add to his tally in the King's Cup final with Saudi Pro League champions Al-Hilal in Jeddah on Friday (May 31).

Cristiano Ronaldo led from the front as Portugal captured their maiden European Championship in 2016, beating hosts France 1-0 in extra time in the final at the Stade de France, Saint-Denis, Paris.

The then 31-year-old played every minute of the first six games - including two periods of extra time - striking three times and providing as many assists. Ronaldo played only 25 minutes in the final after being injured by a horror tackle from Dimitri Payet.

He tried to play through injury but eventually came off teary-eyed, unable to continue. Ronaldo, though, cheered his teammates from the baseline, as Eder's low effort from distance beat Hugo Lloris in extra time, sparking wild celebrations in the Portugal camp.
