Fans reacted to former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti overseeing a goalless away draw with Ecuador in his first game in charge of Brazil in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Thursday (June 5). It's the legendary Italian's first foray into international football.
One of the most accomplished managers in club football, Ancelotti ended his second stint with Los Blancos without major silverware. His side won the UEFA Super Cup but fell short in their La Liga, UEFA Champions League and Supercopa Espana title defences. They also lost to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final.
Despite having a year left on his contract, Ancelotti ended his Madrid stint and became Brazil's new head coach. However, the team's performance in his first game in charge left much to be desired. Ecuador dominated possession (53%) and had more shots on goal (7-3) and shots on target (3-2).
They also strung together more passes (485-449) and had a better passing accuracy (87%-83%) in the goalless stalemate at the Estadio Monumental in Guayaquil.
"Ronaldinho will be weeping for this current Brazil team right now," one fan reacted to the Selecao's performance.
Another chimed in:
"Anceleban ball"
There were similar reactions from other Los Blancos fans, with one tweeting:
"Thank god we don't have to watch Carlo ball anymore"
"Ancelotti is still continuing Real Madrid 24/25 lmao...," chimed in another.
One fan wrote:
"I'm so glad we got rid of Ancelotti - it's just disgusting to watch."
Another posted:
"The same awful performance with only 3 shots lol"
Following the stalemate, Ancelotti's side are fourth in the CONMEBOL standings after 15 games, trailing leaders Argentina (34) - who have already qualified - by 12 points.
"I'm very happy to have Carlo Ancelotti with us" - Real Madrid and Brazil attacker Vinicius Junior

Real Madrid attacker Vinicius Junior was all praise for his former club boss Carlo Ancelotti, who took charge of Brazil at the end of the recently concluded 2024-25 campaign.
Although the Selecao didn't start the Carlo Ancelotti era with a win, Vinicius expressed happiness to work under the Italian, having played the last four seasons under Ancelotti with Los Blancos in club football.
“I am very happy to have Ancelotti with us," Vinicius said (as per CBF). "I have always said that he was the best coach I have ever worked with. And the opportunity to work with the Brazilian national team, there's nothing better.
"Of course, he has not had time to show his work, his game plan, because it was only two or three days of training. I believe that the team, the fans, everyone has to stay together, happy, because the World Cup is just around the corner and we have to have an excellent end to the qualifiers and then prepare for the World Cup."
Carlo Ancelotti's team next take on Paraguay at home on Tuesday (June 10), where victory will confirm their spot in next year's World Cup.
