Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane was far from impressed with Tottenham Hotspur's Cristian Romero during United's clash with Spurs on Saturday.

The Irish pundit slammed the center-back for laughing in the face of United captain Harry Maguire who suffered the ignominy of scoring an own goal.

Speaking on the issue after the match, Keane said on Sky Sports (via Manchester Evening News):

“Not good. No, no, no. You get no luck for that. When you’re a player you take note, don’t worry. You take note of that.”

The incident between Maguire and Romero occurred while United were 2-1 up, with Maguire's own goal drawing the game level. However, Manchester United had the mercurial talents of Cristiano Ronaldo to count on and snatched a win when all was said and done at the final whistle.

Romero himself suffered the ignominy of playing in a defense that allowed Ronaldo to bag his 59th career hat-trick and cement himself as the highest goalscorer on FIFA’s records.

While this isn’t as devastating as an own goal, the Argentine went on to lose the game, and at the end of the day, United had the last laugh.

The Red Devils now sit in 4th position but will face a stern challenge in holding on to this spot in the standings. Most of the the chasing pack has games in hand over them.

With Arsenal just two points behind the Red Devils, there's a good chance that United may not qualify for the Champions League next season. The Gunners have four games in hand, and with their current form, could easily overtake the Red Devils.

Manchester United will need to maintain top form and hope that results go against Arsenal's if they are to maintain a top-four slot. The club could also win the Champions League this season, which will see them qualify for the next season automatically.

However, due to their poor form, United aren't seen as strong contenders to win Europe's coveted trophy. They will have to make do with consecutive wins in the Premier League to potentially hold onto the fourth place slot.
