Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp made an X-rated remark while recalling the 2021–22 UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid. The match ended in a 1-0 win for the La Liga giants.
After a goalless first half, Los Blancos opened the scoring in the 59th minute through Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior, assisted by Federico Valverde. Although the Reds had better possession (54%) and a higher pass accuracy (88%), they failed to score.
Jurgen Klopp's squad had nine shots on target while Real Madrid had only two, and still the former couldn't come out on top. It was largely down to a solid outing from Los Blancos goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Speaking about the Belgian goalkeeper's performance, which had a big impact on the game, Jurgen Klopp said (via Madrid Xtra):
"In the Champions League Final against Real Madrid, that f**ker Courtois had 12 hands."
In the 2021–22 Champions League season, Thibaut Courtois maintained five clean sheets and conceded 14 goals in 13 appearances. The 32-year-old goalkeeper secured 22 clean sheets in 52 matches across all competitions that season.
The Belgian has missed the majority of the ongoing season due to injury issues and was not part of any of the 2023-2024 Champions League matches. He made only three La Liga appearances and maintained clean sheets in all of them.
Real Madrid could reportedly sign 25-year-old Liverpool star in 2025
Real Madrid are interested in signing Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold and could be eyeing a transfer if the defender does not renew his contract with the Reds in 2025, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The 25-year-old Englishman's contract with Liverpool is set to expire next season and there are no official announcements of an extension yet. With Jurgen Klopp set to depart the Reds at the end of the season, several players are reportedly considering leaving the club, including Virgil van Dijk, Mohammed Salah, and others.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has netted three goals and provided nine assists in 35 games across all competitions for the Reds this season.
